Worthington Intermediate School

Project Details:

Stemming from a successful $33.7 million three-question referendum in November 2019, ICS provided planning, project development, pre-referendum communications, construction management, and technical services for ISD 518 in Worthington, MN. Improvements from the referendum included a $33.7 million new Worthington Intermediate School for grades 3-5 and a second-story addition to the existing High School.

The new school provides capacity for approximately 900 students, reorganizes the current grade configurations to better align with available space at both their elementary and middle school, and creates flexible spaces for personalized and collaborative learning. Providing additional space for Worthington’s Trojans is now a reality in southern Minnesota.

The IMPACT

“…One of the biggest challenges we have faced over the last decade is enough space to support our students and staff. During that time, we exhausted all options to provide more space – including teaching students in areas not originally designed as classrooms. Ultimately, we needed to ask our community to fund the additional space we needed.

The path to pass a successful referendum was challenging with our diverse, engaged, cost-conscious, and vocal community. The ICS team stood firm alongside us to help reach our goals in providing more space. Their team sought feedback from our community and stakeholders, engaged in various listening sessions and workshops, and are now managing the construction of various projects across our district.”
